When visiting an international school,
it is natural to notice the campus first:
参观国际学校时，
家长最先留意的通常是校园环境：
Is it spacious?
Are the classrooms bright?
Are the facilities modern?
Are there enough activity spaces?
校园够不够大？
教室是否明亮？
设施是否齐全？
活动空间是否丰富？
The learning environment matters, but an impressive campus does not tell the whole story.
校园环境固然重要，但漂亮的校园并不能代表教育的全部。
What truly shapes a child’s daily experience is what happens inside the classrooms and how the people within the school interact with one another.
真正影响孩子每天学习体验的，是课堂里正在发生什么，以及校园中的人如何相处。
Here are five things parents can observe during a school visit:
参观学校时，家长还可以重点观察以下五个方面：
What are the students doing in class?
课堂里的孩子正在做什么？
Are they only listening and copying, or are they also asking questions, discussing ideas, solving problems and creating something of their own?
他们只是在听讲和抄写，还是也有机会提问、讨论、解决问题，并创造属于自己的成果？
A meaningful classroom should give children opportunities to think and participate, rather than simply receive information.
有意义的课堂不只是传递知识，也应该让孩子真正参与和思考。
How do teachers respond to students?
老师如何回应孩子？
Notice whether teachers listen carefully, ask follow-up questions and encourage children to explain their thinking.
可以留意老师是否认真倾听，会不会继续追问，并鼓励孩子解释自己的思考过程。
A teacher’s response can reveal whether the classroom values only correct answers or also respects curiosity, effort and different perspectives.
老师回应孩子的方式，往往能看出课堂只关注正确答案，还是同样重视好奇心、努力和不同观点。
Are students comfortable expressing themselves?
孩子是否愿意表达自己？
Do children appear confident enough to speak, ask for help and communicate with their classmates?
孩子是否有信心发言、寻求帮助，并与同学交流？
A positive learning environment does not mean every child must be outgoing. It means children feel safe enough to participate in their own way.
良好的学习环境并不要求每个孩子都很外向，而是让不同性格的孩子都能以适合自己的方式参与其中。
Can the school explain how learning happens?
学校能否清楚说明学习是如何发生的？
Beyond introducing programmes and facilities, can teachers clearly explain:
除了介绍课程名称和硬件设施，老师能否清楚解释：
What are the children learning?
Why are they learning it?
How is their progress observed and supported?
孩子正在学习什么？
为什么要学习这些内容？
学校如何观察并支持孩子的进步？
A strong curriculum should be visible in children’s daily learning, not only in promotional materials.
真正扎实的课程体系，应该能够在孩子每天的学习中被看见，而不只存在于宣传资料里。
What does the campus feel like?
校园给人的真实感受是什么？
Observe the small interactions:
可以观察一些细小的互动：
Do staff members greet students by name?
Do older and younger students treat one another with respect?
Do children appear relaxed, engaged and connected?
老师和工作人员是否会叫出孩子的名字？
不同年龄的学生是否懂得相互尊重？
孩子看起来是否放松、投入，并对校园有归属感？
These everyday moments often reveal more about a school’s culture than a carefully prepared presentation.
这些日常细节，往往比精心准备的介绍更能体现一所学校的文化。
During a school visit, parents do not need to find a “perfect” school. The more important question is whether the school’s educational approach, community and expectations are genuinely suitable for their child.
参观学校，并不是为了寻找一所“完美的学校”。更重要的是了解学校的教育理念、校园文化和培养方向，是否真正适合自己的孩子。
Do not only look at where children learn. Look carefully at how they learn, how they are treated and who they are becoming.
不要只看孩子在哪里学习，也要看他们如何学习、如何被对待，以及正在成长为什么样的人。
